Raquel Winchester a 16 year-old opera singer from Marabella in the twin countries of Trinidad & Tobago was named the most talented teen in the world and the 2006 Miss Hal Jackson’s Talented Teen International on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Symphony Space in New York City.  Raquel stole the judges’ hearts with her heartwarming rendition of “Think of Me” from the Broadway play “Phantom of the Opera.”   She won the title from other young ladies between the ages of 13 and 17 from across the United States, the Caribbean and Canada.  Raquel enjoys Art because it helps to develop her creativity, allows her to express herself and appreciate the beauty of nature.  The aspiring singer, musician and psychologist would like to attend the Julliard School or Colgate University.  She entered talented teens to develop and showcase her talent and to represent her country in a positive way.  Through her participation in the program, she has learned about the importance of perseverance and teamwork for success.  Her motto is…Philippians 4:13…I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!  She has won a $5,000 scholarship to the college of her choice, a trip to the British Virgin Islands sponsored by the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board, a trip to England with air travel sponsored by Apel Travel International, a diamond ring along with other gifts and prizes.

 

 

Music Meir comes to us from Panama City, Florida.  This 15-year-old pianist enjoys music, like her name, because she loves to entertain.  She would like to become a concert pianist and to accomplish this she will begin her career by attending the Julliard School in New York City and major in Music.  She entered the competition after a recommendation and researching scholarship opportunities.  She realizes that her talents are extremely important. Her motto is hard work, discipline, tenacity and diligence always benefit the benefactor.  Music has won a diamond ring and a $2,000 scholarship to the college of her choice.

 

 

Sixteen-year-old Quiana Haynes from New York City, New York is a ballet dancer on point who attends Professional Performing Arts High School where her favorite subject is Math because it challenges her to think.  Upon graduating from high school, she would like to attend New York University with hopes of becoming a physical therapist as well as a medical doctor.   Participating in Talented Teens has been a lifelong dream and she hopes she can be a role model for others.  She has learned no matter how hard the challenge, never give up!  Her motto is…the sky is the limit…reach for it…God is my guide…he’s always by my side!  Quiana has won a $1,500 scholarship to the college of her choice.

 

 

The HJTTI 2006 3rd runner up is 13-year-old Kelley Young a hip hop ballet dancer from Alpharetta, Georgia.  Like many of the other talented teens, Kelley likes Science because she can apply many of the concepts and principles she learns in class to every day living.  She would like to attend North Carolina School of the Art with a double major in Dance and Drama.  One day Kelley would like to be a part of the entertainment industry and inspire other teens to work hard and persevere.  She entered the competition to share her talents and to work diligently with other teens toward a common goal.  She has learned there is value in sharing your talents, enthusiasm and personality with other teens who she believes are destined to shape the world.  Her motto, as is Oprah Winfrey’s, live your best life!  Kelley has won a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice.

 

 

Natorii Illidge is a 15-year-old dancer attending St. Martin Academy in St. Martin in the Dutch West Indies.  The opportunity to solve difficult problems is why she enjoys Mathematics.  She would like to attend Tampa University in Florida to become and elementary school teacher.  Displaying her talent and learning from other talented teens are the main reasons why she entered the competition.  Her motto is…rise each time you fall.  Natorii has won a $500 scholarship to the college of her choice.

 

 

The 2006 Talented Teen with the highest grade point average is Miss Florida, Music Meier from Panama City, Florida.  She has maintained a 4.0 average since the 4th grade.  She will receive a Wilda LaBrie Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to the college of her choice.  Music also obtained the highest score in talent on International Finals night and will receive an additional $1,000.  In total Music has won $4,000 to assist with her college education.

 

 

The 2006 Talented Teen chosen by our official photographer, Mychal Watts, is Miss Maryland, 15-years-old Taylor Penn who comes to us from Columbia, Maryland and attends Archbishop Spalding High School where her favorite subject is History because it gives insight into the lives and culture of our ancestors.  She would like to attend Spellman College and major in Pre-Law as she pursues a career in the law.  Taylor entered the contest to not only represent her state but also to meet contestants from other states and countries.  She has learned that everyone has a talent that makes them unique.  Her motto…knowledge breeds confidence.  Taylor has won a $500 scholarship as Miss Photogenic.  She was also chosen as Miss Congeniality by the 2006 contestants and has won an additional $250, therefore, she has won a total scholarship of $750 to the college of her choice.
